Tire defects

Flow Crack Below the Rim Line
-Tread too narrow
-Low shaping
-Drum set too wide
-Plugged bead vents



Foreign Matter
Inside lube
Floor pick up

Flash
Flash of bead toe and ring register of previous tire not cleaned out of mold

Defective mold
Ring register off
Broken bead curing ring
Pitted or damaged rings
Wrong curing rings


Flipper blow

Too much solvent used in building
Moisture content in fabric too high
Trapped air in loose turn ups
Bare fabric on bead flippers
Open filler splice

Narrow bead

Narrow plies
High angle fabric
Drums set too narrow
Plies applied off center
Improper shaping (High shaping)
Ledge width too wide


Kinked Bead

Inadequate inside lube applied to tire
Wrong bead diameter
Tires sticking in mold (tread or bead ring area)
Internal not completely drained out of bladder when press opens.
Too high of a vacuum pressure used internally

Buckled Bead

Bladder buckled at bead area
Tight tire – too small for mold
High shaping (bladder over bead)
Tire not centered in press
Bladder not centered in the tire
Inside lube improperly applied

Flow crack


Plugged sidewall vents
Off angle fabric (low)
Mold lube or moisture laying in mold
Off gauge treads/SWs
Lack of or too much of outside lube
Low shaping
Drum set too wide


Foreign matter

Inside lube on outside of tire

Blister

Trapped air resulting from ply pile ups, air between cushion and tread, air between tread and carcass, air stitchers at building drum etc.
Moisture in rubber
Water on base of treads
Excessive use of solvent
Foreign material in stock
Air trapped between bladder and tire and driven through carcass.

Pitted ( dirty ) mold

Rusty molds causing pits
Dirt accumulation on mold surface
Excessive mold lube

Vents cured in


Broken vents not cleaned out of mold from previous tire.
Vent broken off and still in vent hole


Light tread

Low tread gauges
Plugged vents
Excessive mold lube
Over shaping (tread scrapping mold)
Low internal pressure
Distorted tire from storage


Crown buckle

Tight Tire (high angle fabric and low drum set)
Old or weak bladder
Under shaped causing bladder to go off center
Lack of inner lube


Ply blow
Excessive solvent used on fabric
High moisture content in fabric
Trapped air
Improper stitching pressures
Possibly a leaky bladder or bladder assembly

Spread cord
Poor tack between the plies
Rough bladder or bag
Excessive inside tire lube (not dry)
Leaky bladder
Trapped air between carcass and bladder
Closing press with wet bladder
